Knitting Linen Stitch

Does anyone know about the various fabrics used by various Brand names in the readymade garment industry.?
These fabrics are definitely not available in the fabric shops for stitching purposes. I am fascinated by all the fabrics that I see used in the ready made garments e.g. denims, piques, all kinds of knitted fabrics, lovely linens and many others. Do they get them specially made by the Textile companies. If one wanted to launch one's own readymade garment label, what is the minimum amount that one could start off with. Any information would be helpful please. Thanks.
Do you have fabric jobbers around? They buy surplus fabrics from factories and offer them again in smaller amounts to small manufacturers and sometimes even to those of us who sew at home. But normally, the way a manufacturer buys fabrics is either through the representatives of particular mills, or by going to a fabric show. Minimums there are often in the thousands of yards.
