Stitch Kit Love

Sewing: strong stitch needed?
I plan to slice a small opening in an old rubber basketball, fill the ball with gravel, then sew the opening shut. I will then use a tire-patch kit to seal the opening. In short, I want to make a homemade medicine ball for exercise purposes.
What is the best sort of stitch for my purposes? It should be extremely strong and rip-resistant.
I was thinking of using the baseball stitch, but if something better exists, I'd love to hear about it.

The Baseball stitch will work perfectly, the key is the thread. and how far away from opening you place stitches. start stitch about 1/4 inch from opening this should keep it from pulling through the rubber. also if you place a small strip of heavy duty fabric on the inside of opening were you are going to stitch shut, and stitch through it and the rubber this will give you a stronger stitch. Use heavy duty thread as heavy as you can find.
