Silk Embroidery Thread

If I am embroidering onto a silk waistcoat what type of needle should I use?
I am planning on doing the design in a silver embroidery thread but don't want to damage the fabric.
Try this on scraps of silk first.
If the embroidery thread is metallic, it may cut into the fabric.
Test, using a light weight stabilizer that can be iron-on and then trimmed away - see machine embroidery supplies.
