Yarn Weight Confusion?
I bought Paton's Beehive Baby yarn from Mary Maxim's near Guelph, ON. It says It's Sport, but it also says Light 3 on the side.
I'm new to knitting, and even moreso to actually buying the yarn myself.
The pattern I'm using the yarn for says I need sport 5 ply (12 wpi), which I've sparted because I knew I had Baby yarn for a baby hat and sport for something that needed sport.
So do I have Light fingering (3ply) or Sport? Can I con tinue with this pattern?

Yes, the yarn is compatible with that pattern.
The texture of the Beehive Baby Sport yarn, which is 70% acrylic and 30% nylon, will be different from the texture of the Knit Picks Shine Sport, which is 60% cotton and 40% rayon. The hat will look softer and be a bit more flexible than the hat in the picture. It will also be warmer, which might be a good thing where you live. Both yarns will knit to the same gauge (number of stitches per inch, usually measured as an average over 4 inches).
You will need to knit a gauge swatch to be sure you get the same number of stitches per 4" as the pattern (24 sts = 4"). If you get more stitches, switch to the next larger size needle and try again. If you get fewer stitches, switch to the next smaller size needle and try again. You may think, "Oh, that's time consuming and I want to get right on the hat!" However, it's worth your time to make sure you are very close to gauge, even on a baby hat. The gauge will affect the SIZE of the hat and it will also affect the PATTERN of the hat. If your gauge is too loose OR too tight, the lace won't be as pretty.
