Knitting Socks Kit

Could anybody help me with a knitting problem?
I am knew to knitting, and am trying to complete a sock making kit my friend gave me for my birthday. At the moment I have figured out casting on, and have done it reasonably well. However, I have to cast on 64 stitches, with 16 on each needle (the needles make a sort of square shape). I need to know how to continue the casting on from one needle to another. I have tried to find this out on the internet, but have had no joy.
I apologise if this makes little sense, but thanks for any help.
Cast on half of the stitches (32 onto one needle), then hold the second needle next to this, with the end of this needle a bit further out than the first and continue to cast on the remaining 32 stitches, moving this needle forward as you need more room. When all 64 stitches are cast on, take the second needle and fold it so that the last stitch you cast on is next to the first stitch cast on. Make sure all the stitches are on the same side of the needles and don't twist around it anywhere (this is a bad boo-boo and would require ripping out and starting again if there's a twist). Now, take the last stitch and pull a bit more yarn through and move it to the other needle next to the first stitch, then pick up the first stitch and pull it over the last stitch so they change places and then put that stitch on the second needle where the other one started (trust me, this works). Tighten up your yarn and take a third needle and knit half the 32 stitches from the first needle onto that. Take a fourth needle and knit the remaining 16 stitches from the first needle, which frees that needle to knit the first 16 stitches from the second needle. Take the last free needle and knit the remaining 16 stitches. You are now joined without a jog or gap at the beginning (hang some sort of stitch marker between the first and last stitches right on the knitting) and have your first, stablizing round knit. You may need a few more rounds knit to get it really stable, but this works quite well as long as you make sure there is no twist in the cast on. I've knit a lot of socks now and don't really need a pattern any more.
