Knitting Needle Storage Ideas

any cute storage ideas?
I am an artsy crafty person but also a pack rat and a slob. I can't seem to get organized. any cute storage/organization ideas? i need to organize/store yarn, thread, fabric, paints, crochet hooks, knit needles, paint brushes, paper, craft punches, etc. i think my husband is about to throw all my stuff out if i don't get it organized quick!!
Buy a sturdy bookshelf with shelves 10 or 12 inches deep at a garage sale or 2nd hand store. Acquire or buy a quantity of stiff, white, thin-wall plastic pipe in diameters from 1" to 4". (It can be quite cheap if bought as surplus; or you can get scraps from a construction site; I think it is used as electrical conduit)
Cut all the pipe to a length equal to the depth of your shelves, then stuff it into the shelves tightly enough that it stays put.
For items longer than your shelves are deep, secure a few longer lengths of pipe to the ends of the bookshelf with perforated strapping and screws, Another bit of strapping screwed across the bottom of the pipe keeps the goodies from falling through.
Paint the whole rig in several whimsical colors to denote the various categories of "stuff".
Now you have scores of holders for all your treasures in quite a compact piece of furniture.
