knitting machines, which brand do you recommend?
i want to purchase a knitting machine to do home knitting, what is the best make to buy and how much would i need to spend to kit myself out with all the knitting accessories that would enable me to make a jumper? i live in the UK so i am looking at UK retailers only.
All the brands of knitting machines are equally good. People tend to like best the brand they first learned on. Personally I still prefer my brother although I also have a knitmaster and a pfaff.
I believe new machines are only available now from Silver Reed or Passap.
There are some good buys available second hand on e bay or private sale. However if you have never used a machine before then buyer beware. If you know someone who has a machine take them with you to actually try the machine before you buy.
www.undyarns.co.uk and www.heathercraft.co.uk sell second hand machines and being a business you knot the machines have been tested and are in working order
It would be a good idea to go a knitting club near you. You can find one by contacting the guild of machine knitters at www.guild-mach-knit.org.uk
The members would be happy to tell you about their machines. Knitters are a friendly lot. Most clubs have a club machine which if you choose a night with no speaker you might be able to try.
My own club is at www.allknitsherberts.co.uk if you're interested in what we do..
