Knitting Problem with Baby Sweater?
I am knitting a baby sweater and have come the part where I am shaping the neck and shoulders on the front side. I have no idea what this lingo is saying:
Work 20 sts (meaning knit?), place center 14 sts on a holder (I can do that), join 2nd ball of yarn and work to end of row. (Is this on the holder, or the sts left on my needle?). Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every row 5 times. (WHAT?)
Can someone please clarify that for me?? Thank you!
Thank you! Can you also explain how to add the second ball of yarn to the other shoulder?
Thanks!
What they are doing is getting you to do the right and left side of the sweater at the same time. This will make sure you make your decreases at the same time so the front top looks the same. Let me try an example
Just suppose you have 54 stitches on your needle.
Knit 20, put 14 stitches on a holder. Join the second ball of yarns and knit the 20 stitches that are left on the needle.
Turn purl 18 stitches purl 2 stitches together go to the other side purl 2 together, purl to the end of the row.
Turn knit to the last two stitches on this side and knit those 2 stitches together, on the other side knit 2 stitches together and knit to the end of the row.
continue with these two rows until you have decreased by 5 stitches. You have now decreased 2 stitches so you will have to make 3 more rows.
To add the second ball to the shoulder slip your needle into the first stitch on the other shoulder, now take the yarn from the second ball and make your stitch. Keep on purling but carry the tail from the second ball for a couple of inches to cover it
FYI When you get to the sleeves do both of them at the some time. Make sure you keep the sleeves separated you will find that this way you will increase or decrease at the same time and not get bored and will get them done faster. Check my avatar and email me if you have any questions.
