Illusion Knitting Charts

Illusion knitting - anyone ever designed their own chart?

I tried using a software programme to convert my graphic to a pattern chart, and then worked it using the illusion technique, but it came out tall and skinny. Anyone got any tips on how to design a chart that'll come out the right size please?
Software was *definitely* for a knitting pattern, *not* cross stitch. Given that in illusion knitting each row is worked four times, I guess that's where the problem arises - I need something which will compensate for that.

Thanks for links to illusion knitting - will investigate.

The software must not have been for knitting -- knitting stitches are taller than they are wide. Sounds like the chart you made had squares, which are OK for cross-stitch and probably crochet.

If you search online for knitting graph paper, you'll see what I mean. Here's a tutorial for making some with Microsoft Excel: http://twistedspinster.net/2004-02/GraphPaper.html And here's a great article about charts at Knitty.com: http://www.knitty.com/issuewinter04/FEATcharts.html

There are a couple of Yahoo Groups for illusion knitting:

Perhaps they can help.
