Embroidery Designs Applique

Embroidery applique design question?
I am brand new to the embroidery world and have purchased a Brother sewing/embroidery combo and the PED Basic software. I bought an embroidery applique design and was able to load it to the PED writer and then onto my sewing machine. The problem is it doesn't give me the option to make an applique, just embroider the design. Does anyone know how to make it convert to an applique? Thanks in advance!
This is not really enough information to answer your question. Was the design you bought specifically made for applique? If not, then you would need to find the answer in your PED software instructions.
