Crochet Thread Polyester

What can I use to stiffen cotton / polyester thread?
I'm making some earrings hook, but the yarn is too soft, it's a mix between cotton and polyester, I was wondering if there a way to stiff when I'm done with it. I mean some material where I can be submerged and it gets harder? ... I just want it to stop bending and deforming ...
You can use starch or liquid starch if you want to dip. Sold with detergents and instructions will be on the can or bottle.
