Peas and Carrots

Peas and carrots charm topHere is the quilt top that I was telling you about in my previous post. I made it using the “Peas and Carrots” charm pack I bought at Long Beach. I’m not sure what to make of it. It’s a little bit busy. I think this was the wrong charm pack for this pattern. But I’m going to keep going with it. I am going to order some fabric for the backing from the same line and some batting and then my next adventure will start, the actual quilting process. I have no idea what I’m doing. It should be interesting.

Here is my progress on Audrey:

I’m getting there! Hopefully I will finish the sleeve this weekend. We’re going camping so there will be knitting by the campfire.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Queen Charlotte’s Crown

Queen-Charlotte's-Crown

Since I’m on vacation I’ve had all kinds of time to do crafty things. Yesterday I finished up another quilt block from the Tuscan Sun quilt. This one is called “Queen Charlotte’s Crown.”

The Sunrise Circle Jacket is blocked. Today I will put the buttons on it.

I didn’t show you these

I finished spinning that blue and copper roving a few weeks back and this is what it looks like:

all in a row

It still looks kind of like newbie yarn, but I’m getting better I think. My spinning goes in spurts. I’m really into it for a few weeks and want to do nothing else and then I get distracted with something else for awhile. So my learning curve on this is going slow. But that’s okay. That’s why I like it. It’s all about the process. I have no idea what i’m going to do with it. I don’t even know how many yards I have because I haven’t figured out how to determine yardage with handspun yarn. Maybe it will be some sort of scarf or something.

I also finished another Tuscan Sun quilt block the other day:

sisters-choice

This one is called Sister’s Choice. I machine pieced it.

Sewing on the skirt is still stalled. I need a sewing maching that does more than sew straight lines. I’m super broke at the moment so I think my purchase will have to wait a bit.

That’s all the energy I have for you at the moment. I’m sick as a dog today. I stayed home from work with some bronchial-coughy sickness and have no energy. ugh.

Have a great weekend!

A back and half a front

Sunrise Circle JacketCheck it out. I have a back and half a left front of my Sunrise Circle Jacket. I know it’s so incredibly exciting you can hardly stand it. Like I mentioned, I am knitting it on size 3 needles. And this yarn is, indeed killing my hands. Along with the small needles size. I’m finding muscles in my hands I didn’t know existed. I like the way the fabric is knitting up. So it’s all good so far. As long as I rest my hands.

I decided to take a bit of a break from it and I cast on for another project this morning. Both Melissa and Jennifer have inspired me with thier beautiful mittens. I have decided to knit the Anemoi mittens (by Eunny Jang), too. I am using the blue skien of Socks that Rock. The one that I used for Pomatomus and an extra hank of undyed knitpicks sock yarn for the main color.

SkirtI bought some fabric and started on a skirt from my book “Sew what? Skirts!”
Very project spectrummy. I cut out the pattern and started to sew a button hole on my old sewing machine and got stuck. I seriously need a new sewing machine. I almost ruined my fabric trying to sew a button hole. sigh. So the skirt will be on hold while I shop around for inexpensive beginner sewing machines. And if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

I also finished another quilt block:

double wrench

This one is called Double Wrench. this I did sew on the machine. My machine can at least handle straight lines.

An update

Sew What! Skirts: 16 Simple Styles You Can Make with Fabulous FabricsI haven’t updated this blog in awhile. Sorry about that. My lame excuse is that my camera ran out of batteries last weekend and I keep forgettting to buy some. So I thought I would post a little update on my crafty happenings.

  • I got the book Sew What! Skirts in tje mail today form Amazon. I am so stoked! The book tells you how to draft your own skirt patterns based on your very own measurements. Then it gives directions for 16 basic skirt designs from easiest to hardest. But they all look pretty easy. I can’t wait to find some fun fabric and make something from it!
  • I decided to knit up the Sunrise Circle Jacket on size three needles. I know. I’m totally insane for doing it. And would you believe this, it’s still measuring out about an inch too big! I don’t know what the deal is with my knitting but something is seriously wrong if I’m knitting that loosely. But anyway, 1 inch too big will be okay for me because I’m kind of in between sizes so I think it will work. At least I hope so. Annelis mentioned in my last post that it’s hard to knit when it’s knitted on smaller needles and, oh boy, is it ever. I think I’m going to develop Carpel Tunnel Syndrome knitting this thing.
  • I had a dream last weekend about quilting. I haven’t done anything with my Tuscan Sun quilt since the last time I posted on it. However, thanks to Esther’s tip, I do have a Setting Kit for it now! I scored on Ebay. Yay!
  • I have worn Loll several times and I love this sweater. I have gotten numerous compliments on it.

That is all. Take care and happy Friday!
