Presenting Butterfly

butterfly-sideShe is blocked into submission and ready for wearing. This fall, anyway.

Pattern: Butterfly from Noro Knits. Designed by Jane Ellison.
Yarn:Noro Kureyon in the colorway 55 (I think).
Started: Feb. 27th, 2006
Finished: Sept. 5th, 2006

The sleeves are still a bit long but I think they are supposed to be like that. Otherwise, it’s a great fit! I ended up knitting up the small. Definately going to be a nice fall cardi to throw on in the chilly weather coming up soon.

I’ve been continuing work on Loll. Sorry no pictures of that at the moment. Next week.

I’ve also been obsessing over making a sweater out of Blue Sky Alpaca Cotton yarn. Thinking about wearing a sweater made out of this yarn has literally helped lull me to sleep! Weird, I know. I knitted the Cheveron Rib Tank awhile ago out of this yarn and I never wear it. I hate the way the front point hangs way down to my nether-regions. It’s such a waste of yarn. But I do love the Garter Rib stitch pattern on the back of the tank. I think I’m going to make a nice comfy no-seam sweater in Garter Rib with it and some leftover hanks that I have.

Finally, I just want to take a moment to remember those that died horribly five years ago today. Not much else to say about that. Just remembering.

Butterfly needs blocking

Butterfly front pre-blockingMelissa was right, I did finish Butterfly over my vacation. It took about eight hours each way of driving to the coast and I made myself knit the whole way. I also knit quite a lot while we were camping. We had a fantastic time, by the way! Pictures are on my Flickr page if you would like to see them. I wish I was still there. sigh. Since I’ve been back I’ve been thinking about how I can open a yarn store in Long Beach. I miss the ocean!

Butterfly Back pre-blockingAnyway. Back to Butterfly. Here she is draped over my old rocking chair in it’s pre-blocking state. It needs some serious blocking, doesn’t it? That collar is totally out of control. I will have an official finished shot for you later this week or next weekend. It’s still hot here in Spokane and I’m not so sure I want to put it on in 95 degree heat (did I say I miss the ocean and it’s mild temperatures? I did? oh. okay.).

So Project Spectrum is over. Since everyone else is doing it I am going to totally jump on the bandwagon and do a collage of my PS photos over the months. Sans knitting and coloring projects.

Project Spectrum photos

Okay. That took forever and I messed it up! grrr.

Have a good day!

Butterfly in the grass

Butterfly in the grassNot much to say about Butterfly. Been there, done that. Knitting the small size this time so that it will fit. Am currently working on the right front panel. I am on vaction this week and we are going back over to the coast on Wednesday (W00T! Yay for the ocean!). Road trip, baybee! That means lots-o-knitting time. So I will most definately bring Butterfly with me to work on and finish. So I can move on with my life and to other things. I have MAJOR gift knitting to get to and I feel like I am procrastinating it. I mean, can you believe it’s going to be September in a few days? Christmas will creep upon us before we know it!

Um. Yeah. That procrastinating thing.
Softest scarf

It’s going to be a Purl Scarf from the book “Last minute knitted gifts!” I saw my pal Judy’s and was inspired to make my own with some stash yarn. I am using some “Steadfast Fibers Wonderful wool” held together with Kidsilk Haze and some other mohair that I can’t remember the name of. So soft and pretty. I’m deciding if this will be a gift for someone for Christmas.

Speaking of inspiration. . .

Log Cabin square
Okay. I am not a regular reader of the blog “Wendy Knits.” However, every once in awhile I will surf on over there to see what she is currently knitting. Not long ago I saw that she was knitting up a Log Cabin Blanket out of scraps of sock yarn. I thought it was a fantastic idea! I love “Mason Dixon Knitting” (the book that is the cause of all of this log cabin knitting craziness on the web). I’ve already checked it out from the library twice. So I give props to them. We’ll see how far I can stand to go with this sock yarn blankie, tho. I might just very well get bored and stop. But I’ve been trying to figure out what the hell to do with my scraps of sock yarn. I can’t bear to throw it away!

That is all from this little corner of internets. Take care! and have a wonderful week.

Knee-highs!

knee highsI finished these on Thursday night. Weaved in the last end and ceremoniously put them on my feet. I turned to my husband and asked, “Like my new socks?” His response was, “Did you buy those?” I said, “No. I’ve been sitting here working on them for the past two weeks.” He couldn’t believe that I knitted them.

Here are the specs:
Pattern: “Evening stockings for a young lady.” From the book, Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush.
Yarn: Knitpicks Essential. About two and a half balls.
Needles: Clover size 1 bamboo dpns.
Started: August 1st, 2006
Finished: August 17th, 2006

I really enjoyed knitting these socks. I almost suffered from 2nd sock syndrome but cast on for sock #2 before I could really even think about it. That cured The Dreaded Syndrome. I love “Knitting Vintage Socks.” I almost can’t wait to start on another pattern from the book. But I think I will wait until Socktoberfest since I’ve got lots of other things to finish up.

Like this:
Butterfly. Again

I had tucked this disaster in the closet and forgotten about it. When I looked in there for some yarn I saw it and realized that this was, indeed, a neutral project. So what the hell. I thought I’d finish it up for August.

Yes, I have frogged and restarted. I was going to try knitting it as a seamless sweater but as I thought about what the hell I was going to do about the arms I realized I should just start over and follow the directions. I’m not skilled enough yet to figure this shit out on my own.

So there you go. Happy Monday.

Curiosity

Butterfly - take 2Well, I suppose I lied when I said I am putting this away until fall. Not an hour after I finished that post I got to thinking about it and I got curious. I went and grabbed my copy of Knitting Without Tears, and Knitting Workshop. I thought about how I could translate the no seam sweater into a cardigan. It’s not hard to come up with the answer. Simply knit back and forth and not in the round. So using EPS (Elizabeth’s percentage system) I cast on and went for it. We’ll see how this goes. Yee Haw! I kind of like how the stripes are turning out on this one. Way skinnier. Nice.

Mother's dayHow was your mother’s day? Mine was lovely. I knitted up the Broadstreet mittens for my mom, as I mentioned before. I knitted up a felted bowl to present them in, along with some other goodies. She was stoked. She even said “I can’t wait to wear them!” ooooh. no. bite your tounge. It’s FINALLY getting nice out here. I don’t even want to THINK about snow and winter. shudder. You can see other pictures of the mittens here and here.

And finally, I made some green yarn for Project Spectrum! see:
Green Yarn

It matches my lime-green map of Spokane! It’s so very summery and happy. I like it.

So things with the house are moving along. We are closing tommorrow. I can’t wait to get all of this stress behind us so we can enjoy the house.
