My needles are on fire

Raffa took this pic last night and I thought I’d post it here since it’s knitting related. I love how my hands are all blurry! It echos my manic knitting the past few days.

I should have posted this over the weekend, but I didn’t. I finsihed the back of Audrey:

I am really enjoying this knit so far, I have to say. The yarn is very soft and comfy. And I am really enjoying the increases and decreases. The pattern is definately keeping my interest. I felt kind of sketchy at first on the increases but it all worked itself out. I like how they turned out.

I put Audrey on hold, though, because I am currently obsessed with:

Thats right! I decided to use my silk garden to knit up Clapotis. I am obsessed with this project. I woke up at 4am the other morning thinking about this project and couldn’t go back to sleep! (I’m crazy, I know). But I am glad I decided to go with this pattern instead of Karlsro for this colorway. I think the more subdued colors make for a better scarf/stole. This is colorway #88 btw. Plus, the more I think about it, the less and less I like Karlsro. It looks cute in the picture, but in reality it’s the kind of sweater that would get on my nerves, I think. I’ve never been much of a “wrap” person. Clapotis will be much more versitile.

And I have an FO to show you, too. I finished a beanie that I am gifting to Raffa’s brother Joaquin:

Nothing fancy about it..Just *yet another* beanie. I have one more to knit for Christmas…My husband, upon seeing this hat, informed me that he wants one now…It’s gonna hafta wait. Ima gettin sick of dem beanies.

I’ve kind of been thinking about some of my current UFOs, too. I’m thinking about going a different direction with some of them. For one, I’ve been working on that Trana scarf with my LaBoheme and I’m just not feeling it at all. I don’t like it. It’s a fun pattern to knit, but I don’t think I would ever wear it. I think what I may do is a simple garter stich skinny scarf with beads. I like Heather’s little scarf from her Budda picture and was thinking of making something that skinny.

Also, I am thinking it’s a no-go on the Bertie bag. I hate that pattern. I think I will use the ginormous amount of that Den-m-nit for the Jess cardigan that I was drooling over in this post.

And then there’s the Widow’s shawl. I am thinking of frogging that yet again and using it for Alice from Rowan 35. That yarn is so scrumptious and I want to actually wear what I knit with it. So we’ll see. I need to knit up a swatch of it with teeny needles to see what kind of gauge I get with it. And then there’s the question of whether this pattern is above my skill level, too. Kind of important.

Just some knitty things i’ve been thinking about lately :)
Well, I gotta jet. Gotta go do my “Virtual Reference” shift. Have a nice evening, or morning, or what have you…

Note: Just so you know, the title of this post is in no way meant to “steal” from the Clapotis pattern creator Kate Gilbert, whose blog happens to be named “needles on fire.” I was inspired to name my post ‘my needles are on fire” because of the picture my husband took of me. The combination of the red tones in the picture and the bluriness of the hands evoke fire, to me. It is coincidental that that the name of this post has the same name as Kate’s blog. Well, there might have beem something in my subconscious that put that title in my mind. However, it is rather fitting. Clapotis is a fantastic pattern and Kate deserves an homage.

I guess I am a little paranoid after reading a certain blog post today, if you know what I mean….

No FO

I so wish I had an FO to show you! I was really hoping that I would burn through my glitzy MIL stole, but no such luck. Here is my progess on that, though:

I’m getting sick of knitting this. I hate knitting with this yarn. It sucks. It looks pretty, though. But since I hate knitting with this yarn so much, I have disdain for this project. The prettiness is lost in my irritation. I’ll be glad when this is done.

So I forgot to mention last week that I finished that hella long panel for my Bertie bag, Finally! I got really sick of knitting THAT, too. I finished that mofo and guess what I did with the yarn and the Bertie pieces? Check it out:

Yes I put it in a paper sack so that it would dissappear into the recesses of my mind for awhile. I don’t want to even look at it for a long, long time. Ugh. I hated knitting that.

Now, on my Audrey progress. I reached the increases last night, and understand the confusion over what to do with them. I scoured the Audrey-Along blog and I think I figured it out…But we’ll see. I am going to just keep going and hope that what I’m doing is right. Here is where she is:

I am actually enjoying this project so far! It is really keeping my attention. Calmer is nice to knit with, too. Weird, but nice.

I finally got my brochure for Stitches West the other day. The early-bird registration ends on Dec. 5th! Way to send the brochure in time :???: I will probably go to it and take two classes. I’m not sure which ones. I think I will take one on finishing since I suck in that area. If I don’t take any classes I will for sure go to the marketplace. I better start saving my money now :) .

That’s all from this little corner of the world. Hope your week is going really well!

Feel the fear and do it anyway

For some reason, I swatched for Audrey. I don’t know why, really. I have been avoiding Audrey like the plauge and was planning on starting her more toward springtime. I’ve been really intimidated by Audrey lately, and have been kind of afraid to start working on her. But I got this little bug whispering in my ear. I decided to “just look at the pattern” to see if I could visualize it in my head. I looked through the rowan book to see if there were any other patterns that I could use for my calmer. Then I pulled out the Calmer and remembered how wonderfully soft this yarn is. Then I imagined wearing this yarn in sweater form, and realized how comfortable a sweater knit with this yarn would be. And I knew that this yarn HAD to be used for Audrey. I love this pattern. It’s so girly and pretty. So I decided that I would just knit up a swatch, just to see what would come of it.

I my first swatch ended up being about half an inch too long, even with denise needles!! . So I went down to size 6 needles (two sizes smaller then the pattern calls for). The swatch ended up being acceptable. In some places it is slightly too long, but not by much. So I said “F**k it”, I’ll just do it anyway. If it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out. I have a feeling “f**k it” is going to be my Audrey mantra.

I’ve already knitted up a bit of the front/back. I’ve started on the decreases. So far it’s okay. Not horrible. The yarn is HELLA weird to knit with, though. I’m having a hard time getting used to it. Do I pull it really taught when I knit with it? Do I try to be a little bit more loose? I just don’t know. It’s a very weird yarn. But so soft and comfy.

I am currently working on the fancy Eros Glitz stole for my MIL. It’s really pretty :) . This yarn is also really weird to work with. I’ll be glad when I’m done with it.

Audrey Swatching Troubles

Well, I swatched for Audrey last night with not so good results. When I was finished my swatch measured 12 cm! Unfortunately, I’m new to the whole “square swatch” thing. I feel totally clueless. I’ve always just counted my stitches per inch and gone with that. So I guess this means that I have too few stitches and need to go down a size? I am so mentally challenged when it comes to things like this. I just spent an hour on the audrey-along site, reading about the gauge issues. A lot of people are using teh Denise needles to knit thier audreys. I wonder if I shouldn’t just buy those needles. What do you think? How are those Denises? would it be worth it for me to get those?

Calmer is here

I got home from work and look what was waiting for me:

calmer pool

Wow! I really, really like the color! I thought it would be more turquoisy then it is. It really does look like the color of a swimming pool. Pretty! I can’t believe how fast it got here. And there were little candies in with my order, too  . I definately will order from Jimmy Beans Wool again. Yes, using candy to woo people to your business does work. I should have ordered the Rowan magazine from them, too. Because now I have to wait for *that* before I can begin.

And, as promised, here is a pic of tank girl folded:

tank girl folded

See how fricken thick this thing is?!? And it’s heavy too. I still need to weave up the other side. I will probably do that after I log off.

Oh, I better go make fun of, I mean, watch, Bush’s speech at the RNC
