Audrey!!!!

6-2-audrey5Check it out! I finished Audrey! Yay!
Pattern: Audrey by Kim Hargreaves in Rowan 35.
Yarn: Calmer in the discontinued Pool colorway. I used 7 balls.
Needles: Size 5 and 6 Denise.
Started: April 2005
Finished: May 31 2007

I have had this Calmer in my stash longer than any other. This was the yarn purchase that began my yarn-buying binge of 2005. It was more money than I had ever spent on yarn before and when I bought it I couldn’t believe it did it! And then I got over it and bought more :) .

6-2-audrey4Here is a picture of Audrey on. As you can see it’s a bit clingy, as anything ribbed is going to be. I’m a little bit self -oncious about that. But nothing that a little bit of blocking can’t cure.

In spinning news, I made my first Etsy purchase! I bought some beautiful Yarn Pirate roving:

So. Pretty.

Have a great weekend! Or what’s left of it :)

Peas and Carrots

Peas and carrots charm topHere is the quilt top that I was telling you about in my previous post. I made it using the “Peas and Carrots” charm pack I bought at Long Beach. I’m not sure what to make of it. It’s a little bit busy. I think this was the wrong charm pack for this pattern. But I’m going to keep going with it. I am going to order some fabric for the backing from the same line and some batting and then my next adventure will start, the actual quilting process. I have no idea what I’m doing. It should be interesting.

Here is my progress on Audrey:

Audrey progress

I’m getting there! Hopefully I will finish the sleeve this weekend. We’re going camping so there will be knitting by the campfire.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Back from vacation

Audrey progressI went to Portland and Long Beach, WA this week and got back last night. Hence, I had lots of car-knitting time and I got quite a bit of Audrey knitted. I am 20 rows away from the front (or back). And then it’s on to sleeve island.

Not much to say about that. It all seems to be going okay. I did mess up the darts the tiniest bit on one of the pieces but not enough for me to rip and re-knit. I think it will look fine.

IMG_2719Oh. My. God. I went a little crazy with my MIL at this wonderful little quilt store in Long Beach. It’s Called Anna Lena’s. They had the most adorable kit of retro cowboy prints that I HAD to have. I also picked up a book that the owner of the store wrote. It’s called Bundles of Fun and it has patterns for quilts made out of fat quarters. I thought this might be a good beginner book since I’m still such a newbie.

That was the first day. I decided to go back the next day to buy some charms.. They are little 5″ squares of each fabric from a line. Then, of course, I had to buy a pattern for a quilt made from these charms since I’m kind of clueless as to what to do with them. But they were just so cute! I had to get them! I can’t wait to get started…

Rusted Root

Rusted RootAs promised, here is an official “finished” shot of Rusted Root, and the specs.
Pattern: Rusted Root by Zephyrstyle.
Yarn: Southwest Trading Company Bamboo. A bit over two skeins. It’s hard to tell because I started with a leftover skein. I ended up with about half a skein left out of the two and a half that I had to start.
Needles: Size 6 Addi turbos for the body and size 4 Addi Naturas for the ribbing on the edgings.
Started: April 2nd, 2007
Finished: April 16th 2007.
Click here for the blog archive of this project.

Rusted RootI wore this to work on the day that I took these pictures. Got lots of compliments, which was nice. The sweater did stretch out a bit by the end of they day. That tends to happen with silk sweaters, too. The fabric must get kind of heavy or something. It’s not bad, though. It still looked good.

As I mentioned, I loved the bamboo yarn. It is a fantastic alternative to cotton, I think. It was really silky and soft as I was knitting it and the fabric when knitted up has a really nice, light breathable quality to it.

This was my first top-down sweater and I really enjoyed the process. It got a little boring when I got to the body and had to knit stockinette forever, but that’s to be expected. The best part was not having to seam at all! loved that.

All in all, I’m very happy with it :)

Rusted root is blocking as I type this

rusted root blockingI finished all of the knitting on Rusted Root yesterday. Then I promptly tried it on (and took a picture). It fits! i really like the way it fits, in fact. And I love the fabric of the bamboo yarn. As I said, it’s going to be a really nice summer top. Nice and light and airy. Yay! I will wear it this week and take an official “finshed” picture. Stay tuned for that.

Striped border scarf on magnolia treeIn other knitting news, I’ve been knitting away on the Striped Border Scarf from Victorian Lace Today. Incidentally, I had to start the whole thing over last week, after I posted my picture. Instead of doing a “crochet cast-on” I did a “provisional cast-on”. duh. So I decided to take out the yarn when I started on the center part of the shawl and I realized that I had live stitches on the end of my border. It worked out okay. The border just took a few hourst to knit. So I was was back on track in no time.
