new beginings

Loll beginningsI called the cable company today to transfer my internet service over to my new house. Our service is being shut off tomorrow. The cable guy isn’t coming to our new house until JUNE 7TH! shit! I guess that means I need to post. Which is a good thing. Because I have stuff to talk about.

So this is Loll. From the Rowan Calmer brouchure. I bought this yarn at Communknity last year on a whim. ahhh. and a lovely whim it was. Can you believe that Calmer has been sitting in my stash this long? I can’t. For it is the most loverly yarn to knit with. so soft. so, well, calming. And I’m loving the pattern so far. It’s just challenging enough to hold my interest. To be honest, I think I was feeling kind bummed out about knitting the past few weeks because I’ve been knitting on my husband’s slytherin scarf. b-o-r-i-n-g. I don’t know if I will ever finish that thing. ugh. Loll has kind of put a bit of spark in my knitting again.

Oh, and I decided to knit this project this month because it is blue! and you know what that means…Blue is June’s Project Spectrum color of the month. um, yeah. I am starting early. I can’t bear the slytherin scarf any longer.

little bagSpeaking of Project Spectrum, I made this adorable bag as a gift for my Sister in law’s b-day. It’s from “Last minute knitted gifts.” The yarn is a spare ball I recieved from Andrea (thanks Andrea  ). Isn’t it pretty? She said that it’s bamboo. There is qute a bit left over, too. definately enough for another one. I love it!

Oh, I forgot to take a picture of my latest book purchase. I was wandering around in this awesome little shop here in Spokane called Boo Radleys. Well, I didn’t have to wander around to find my purchase. I walked in the door and it was staring me right in the face. There was a table display of various knitting books in the “stitch-n-bitch vein. But then I saw “subversive cross-stitch” and I knew I had to buy it. I bought a “Happy Fucking Holidays” kit a couple of years ago (still working on it). totally love it. I mean, this is something I would have come up with if I was in the right place in the right time. The book is awesome. I totally want to do a nice little “rat bastard” cross stitch and send it along to my realtor.

Well, I suppose I will see you all after June 7th. sigh.

Clutch

ClutchPattern: “The Clutch you’ll never give up” from the book One Skein by Leigh Radford.
Yarn: Not even a whole skein of Mauch Chunky in the colorway “Blueberry.”
Needles: Denise size 15.
Started: May 23rd
Finished: Mary 23rd (including felting)

Dude. Want to whip up a quick mother’s day present? Right here, baby. I loves me a quick knit. It took me about an hour to knit this and another half an hour to felt it. It took longer for the thing to dry than it did for me to work on it. Stoked!

I loved this yarn. This is a beautiful yarn. Truly gorgeous. I will definately be visiting this yarn again. It’s perfect for felting.

I was trying to find some buttons to sew on it, as the pattern calls for. Didn’t find any that I liked. So I decided to use this pin that I bought a few months ago to wear with Blackberry. I suppose this pin was really meant for my Mother-in-law because it goes perfectly with this clutch and she will love the pin just by itself, too.

Butterfly collarSo today is May 1st and, thus, marks the start of a new Project Spectrumproject. Since this month is green I will be working on my husband’s Slytherin House scarf. But not before I finish Butterfly. I’m soo close I can taste it. I have finished both sleeves and am now working on the Collar. The endless collar. Hopefully I will be done with her in a few days.

If I get bored knitting the Slytherin Scarf I have some plans for this:
Lorna's Laces

Lorna’s laces in the colorway, “forest.”

Thanks again for all of the positive vibes regarding the house hunting. We are still in limbo, but all should be firmed up by next week. Then I can exhale.

what a difference a week makes

4-25-butterflyFirst of all, before I talk about anything else, I want so say THANK YOU for all of your wonderful words of support regarding my house hunting adventures. It has helped me so much. It’s such an emotional and stressful endeavor and your good thoughts have made it so much easier.

So I have some good news! We are going to get a house after all! To make a long story short, our realtor sent us a new listing on Friday, and we went to see it after I got off work. We made an offer on it that evening. After much drama, our offer was accepted. You can read about the whole sordid experience here and here, if you want to.

So I’ve been knitting away on the sleeves of Butterfly this week. I finished one and am about halfway done with the other. blah blah blah. I realized on Sunday that Mother’s day is in, like, two weeks! and I have to mail one of my gifts, so I have a very limited time to get stuff done.
4-25-cluch-feltedI decided to make my MIL the “clutch you’ll never give up” from the book One Skein. At first, I ordered some chunky yarn from Knitpicks, and then realized that I would never get it in time. So then I went to a yarn store and got a skein of some beautiful chunky yarn. I will post the name of it when I post my official finished photos. Here is a shot of the clutch before felting.

I also decided to knit the second Broadstreet Mitten for my mom for mother’s day. She mentioned that she would like it if I knitted mittens for her. So there you go. They will come in handy after all.

Beginnings

Butterfly beginingsSo I cast on for Butterfly this week and have knitted most of the back. I’ve been sick all weekend and, thus, have had plenty of knitting time inbetween my spurts of sleeping. I’m really enjoying the pattern! It’s very fun, very easy. And I love knitting with Noro. Love it. I love seeing what colors are going to be knitted up next. HOwever, I’m not so sure what I think about this colorway. I don’t have much of a choice, I bought all of this yarn for this project and, hell or high water, I will knit this sweater with this yarn. But the colorway is a bit different. Hopefully I will feel better about it as I continue knitting it.

My foray into feltingI also felted Boo yesterday. Here is a pic of the pieces before felting. This was my first felting experience, and I had fun doing it! The felted pieces are about half the size of the original pieces and the are very fuzzy. I kind of wish I would have sewn them all together before felting because now I have to figure out how to sew these things together. Do I use my sewing machine? Do I hand sew? I was kind of planning on machine sewing but now I’m thinking they are too thick.

If I feel up to it later I am going to go to the fabric store to see if I can find some bamboo handles for it. But the I think, for the moment, I am going to go pass out.

I got some yarn this week, but I think I will save it for another post. Have a good Monday :)

A little bit of this, a little bit of that.

Back of BaySo here is the back of Bay! She’s moving along quite nicely, now that I’m spending more time on her. I can’t wait to finish this sweater so I can wear it. The kidsilk haze is soo soft. I’m loving it. There really isn’t very much exciting to say about it. Regular waist shaping, nothing spectacularily new there. But the neck shaping was a bit different. I almost thought the pattern was wrong but I decided to just trust it and go with it, and turned out okay. You can’t really tell in the picture, but the top of the shoulders has a bit of shaping to it.

begining of BooI’ve been dying to knit the adorable felted bag in the Winter 2005/06 Rowan magazine called “Boo.” But buying the yarn for it would have been way too expensive for me, for something like this anyway. So I bought some Patons merino wool yesterday and decided to cast on and knit on it during the Superbowl. BTW, knitting and football really go hand in hand, IMHO. It was the perfect thing to while nervously watching my team lose. Gave me something to do with my hands. Anyway, this is my first felted project and I’m so excited. I am going to buy some really nice bamboo handles for it. And I want to put some lining inside of it, too.

Oh, and I finished another Helmet hat for my hubby. Picture is here, if you want to take a look.

Have a great week!
