Anemoi Mittens
I finished my stealthily knit, Anemoi Mittens. Just in the nick of time for the end of the Blue and White months of Project Spectrum.
Pattern: Anemoi Mittens. Designed by Eunny Jang.
Yarn: The blue is Socks that Rock mediumweight in thier Stonewash colorway (which I don’t see on the website). The white was knit with Knitpicks undyed sock yarn. I used half a hank of each.
Needles: Size 1 . The first one was knit, according to the directions, with size 1 dpns. The second one was knit on two size 1 addi turbo circs. The cuffs for both were knit with size 0 dpns.
Started: Feb. 22nd 2007
Finished: March 21st 2007.
I was inspired to knit these after seeing Melissa’s. I’ve always wanted to make a pair of colorwork mittens, but have been kind of daunted. I saw this pattern and decided that I just had to try it. So I did. Melissa’s look sooo much better than mine 
. But I’m still kinda proud of my work. I’ve never done anything like this before. I had to teach myself how to knit with my left hand. I think I knit continental style, but I didn’t look it up in any books. I just kind of did what felt right to me. It’s interesting because on the first mitten I held the blue in my dominant hand (right) and the white parts really show up. On the second mitten the white was held in my dominate hand and the blue really shows up more. So they look a little bit different. I was kind of experimenting and playing so I’m okay with that. Since this is my first real colorwork pattern I didn’t expect it to turn out perfectly.
I knitted the first one with dpns and then decided, for the second one, I would try knitting it on two circs. I found that method to be much easier for me with this pattern. It worked out well since the front and back are evenly split. And I seemed to be knitting more evenly. AND it was easier to turn it inside out to do the three-needle-bindoff.
The yarn. LOVED knitting with the Socks that Rock. It’s a really good quality yarn. And it’s beautiful. The knitpicks yarn was kind of frustrating to knit with. It was awfully splitty and it kind unwound itself at times. Not the best yarn in the world. But you get what you pay for, I guess.
All in all, I am really happy with these mittens! I loved this pattern. It’s just beautiful. I will wear them proudly this next winter (which can take it’s sweet time to come).
