Change of plans
October 31st, 2006
I’m not liking my progress on the Ene’s Scarf. Here is what I’ve got so far:
First of all lets address the pooling. The dreaded pooling. I hate that! And I think these colors are a bit too much for a shawl.
Secondly, I am just not the most accurate lace knitter in the world. I find knitting lace so fricking frustrating. I am constantly finding myself at the end of the row with the wrong amount of stitches at the end. So the lacy pattern is not turning out. And I just can’t give a half-assed knitted shawl to anyone as a gift. You know?
So I went to Holy Threads yesterday on a mission to find something else to knit for my mom’s Christmas present. The lovely staff there led me to this:
Oh yeah. That’s some lovely Alchemy Haiku right there. In such a beautiful colorway that happens to be my mom’s color. Yay! I’ve always wanted to knit with Alchemy yarn so this is fantastic! I think it will be a nice scarf that she can wear to work or dress up, or whatever.
So there you go! That’s about it from this little corner of the web.
Oh, and Happy Halloween!

I’m so excited for you! Is that Scarlett’s? I haven’t worked that pattern, but I can’t wait to see how yours turns out!

I find that stitch markers really help me with my lace knitting. The new plan is looking really good though. I like that yarn. Lovely.

When I knit lace, a crochet hook is my pal. But if this wasn’t working for you, you were right to frog it. Knitting should be fun.
I love the richness of the color you chose for the new gift for your mother. Very elegant!

have to agree the colors are a bit much for the shawl. oh well, at least you can use it for something else!
have you tried using stitch markers to mark your lace repeats? that might help get your stitches going right. this way, if you do make a mistake, you just rip back that repeat and you feel so smart!
i love the new project though. very pretty!

The pooling didn’t look so bad…were the colors just too overwhelming? I totally understand your complaint with lace…i think it’s more pain that it’s worth…until I see someone’s completed lace shawl and I get jealous. Well, there’s always Clapotis!

Greetings fellow SpoKnitter! A friend directed me to your site. What rich color in this lace attempt! That’s beautiful yarn. Have you gotten much farther since rebooting?
One of the internet’s greatnesses is that it allows everyone to be a DIY’er. There are a few knitting groups around town, but it’s hard to find out when/where they all are. I made a Google Group with the intention of tracking all that. Of course right now there’s just one meetup posted. Please come if you’re inclined!
