Rib and Cable Socks
October 25th, 2006
My Socktoberfest socks/Fall Cable 2006 KAL project is D.O.N.E. !
Pattern: Rib and Cable socks from IK fall 2005. Designer: Nancy Bush.
Yarn:Claudia’s Handpainted in Turquoise Jeans colorway. Two hanks.
Needles: Good old size 1 clover bamboo DPNs.
Started: October 8th 2006
Finished: October 2oth(ish) 2006.
What can I say? Great pattern! Easy cables. Great t.v. knitting. Yet the simple cables add just enough interest. There is an interesting heel flap/heel turning technique that I don’t think I’ve used before. The heel flap is ribbed. Actually, I take that back, I think there are some other ribbed heels in “Knitting Vintage Socks.” The toe decreases are interesting, as well. You start the toe 3 inches from the desired length. Then you decrease until there are only six stitches left. No kitchener’s stitch. Overall, I love this sock pattern! These will go to my mom for her b-day.
Here are some more shots:
I’ve been enjoying knitting Ene’s scarf. It’s really a simple lace pattern and now I’m liking lace again. Not so sure I love the Knitpicks Shimmer colorway that I chose for it, though. It’s the freaking pooling. The actual yarn is great. But thier colorways pool like crazy and it drives me insane. The handpainters need to take a lesson from Claudia of Claudia’s Handpainted. I’m totally impressed by the lack of pooling in these socks.
Okay, that’s all for now. Gotta go knit. Later.

I will have to try this pattern. So, you wanna be co-presidents in the Nancy Bush fan club?

Wow, you’re FAST! Those look great and I agree, the colorway knitted up beautifully. I’ve wondered about the Knitpics yarn - thanks for the info. Do love their new needles though.
Looking forward to pics of Ene.

Ooooh, pretty! Yay! I really enjoyed that heel and toe, too. I think they make for a very well fitting sock. You’ll have a happy mama this Christmas.

Nice sox, Moni-girl! I like that the varigated pooled nicely and doesn’t hide the cable detail.
So good!

I googled the name of this sock pattern and found your blog. I’m working the toe decreases on the first sock and it seems, well, weird. I don’t understand the purl stitches that are then followed by three rounds of knit stitches. It looks strange. Then I did the round of p2tog decreases and I came up with two extra stitches. Thoughts?
