I called the cable company today to transfer my internet service over to my new house. Our service is being shut off tomorrow. The cable guy isn’t coming to our new house until JUNE 7TH! shit! I guess that means I need to post. Which is a good thing. Because I have stuff to talk about.
So this is Loll. From the Rowan Calmer brouchure. I bought this yarn at Communknity last year on a whim. ahhh. and a lovely whim it was. Can you believe that Calmer has been sitting in my stash this long? I can’t. For it is the most loverly yarn to knit with. so soft. so, well, calming. And I’m loving the pattern so far. It’s just challenging enough to hold my interest. To be honest, I think I was feeling kind bummed out about knitting the past few weeks because I’ve been knitting on my husband’s slytherin scarf. b-o-r-i-n-g. I don’t know if I will ever finish that thing. ugh. Loll has kind of put a bit of spark in my knitting again.
Oh, and I decided to knit this project this month because it is blue! and you know what that means…Blue is June’s Project Spectrum color of the month. um, yeah. I am starting early. I can’t bear the slytherin scarf any longer.
Speaking of Project Spectrum, I made this adorable bag as a gift for my Sister in law’s b-day. It’s from “Last minute knitted gifts.” The yarn is a spare ball I recieved from Andrea (thanks Andrea
). Isn’t it pretty? She said that it’s bamboo. There is qute a bit left over, too. definately enough for another one. I love it!
Oh, I forgot to take a picture of my latest book purchase. I was wandering around in this awesome little shop here in Spokane called Boo Radleys. Well, I didn’t have to wander around to find my purchase. I walked in the door and it was staring me right in the face. There was a table display of various knitting books in the “stitch-n-bitch vein. But then I saw “subversive cross-stitch” and I knew I had to buy it. I bought a “Happy Fucking Holidays” kit a couple of years ago (still working on it). totally love it. I mean, this is something I would have come up with if I was in the right place in the right time. The book is awesome. I totally want to do a nice little “rat bastard” cross stitch and send it along to my realtor.
Well, I suppose I will see you all after June 7th. sigh.

I haven’t posted in 11 days! You want to know why? We bought a house! And I’m going to be really, really busy with it for the next few days, so I don’t know if I will be able to post my knitting stuff this weekend, either.
I’m still toying with the idea of just moving this party over to Blatherskite. The thing is that I just am not finding as much time to knit lately. Don’t get me wrong, I AM knitting. But I don’t know that the amount of time I’m knitting requires me to devote an entire blog to it anymore. And I’m afriad that this blog has kind of become stale.
So, I guess what I am trying to say is that if I seem kind of absent over here at Black Sheep, and you are interested in what I’m up to, you can find me over here at Blatherskite.

Well, I suppose I lied when I said I am putting this away until fall. Not an hour after I finished that post I got to thinking about it and I got curious. I went and grabbed my copy of Knitting Without Tears, and Knitting Workshop. I thought about how I could translate the no seam sweater into a cardigan. It’s not hard to come up with the answer. Simply knit back and forth and not in the round. So using EPS (Elizabeth’s percentage system) I cast on and went for it. We’ll see how this goes. Yee Haw! I kind of like how the stripes are turning out on this one. Way skinnier. Nice.
How was your mother’s day? Mine was lovely. I knitted up the Broadstreet mittens for my mom, as I mentioned before. I knitted up a felted bowl to present them in, along with some other goodies. She was stoked. She even said “I can’t wait to wear them!” ooooh. no. bite your tounge. It’s FINALLY getting nice out here. I don’t even want to THINK about snow and winter. shudder. You can see other pictures of the mittens here and here.
And finally, I made some green yarn for Project Spectrum! see:

It matches my lime-green map of Spokane! It’s so very summery and happy. I like it.
So things with the house are moving along. We are closing tommorrow. I can’t wait to get all of this stress behind us so we can enjoy the house.

Next time you knit up a sweater, especially one in which you spent a hundred dollars on the yarn, knit up a friggen gauge swatch! Ugh. I suppose this is the sweater in which I learn the important lesson on gauge. Clearly, the thing is too big. It is the size of a football player. So I will fold her up and place her in the closet until fall comes when I will frog and re-knit. Since I had such good luck with my Chai Pullover being knit as a seamless sweater, I am thinking that I will rework this one as a seamless sweater. For one thing, the stripes will match with the back and sides, so that’s good. I just need to figure out how to do it. The sweater that I am knitting with the yarn that I got from Artfibers is a seamless cardi. So I think I will knit that one first, and then maybe try something with some of that Cotton Ease that I have in my stash. But I’m officially done with wool (unless it’s for socks, lace, or felting) until fall.
Speaking of felted, I knitted up a felted bowl! I used the pattern from the book “One Skein.” Originally I was going to knit it up for my stepmother but I finished and the moment I took it out of the washer I decided to give it to a friend of mine at work because her birthday is today. As you can see, I put a couple of candles in there and some travel size bottles of lotions from Bath and Body Works. I hope she likes it! I enjoyed making it.
Here is a clearer picture of it. I used the rest of that beautiful blue yarn that I used form my MIL’s clutch and some of the pink Knitpicks Sierra yarn to make it stripey. I really love how it turned out and have already knitted another one. I just haven’t felted it yet because my washer died yesterday.
I worked a little bit on the Slytherin Scarf last week. But, as you can probably tell, I got bored with it and wandered on to other things. I will try to get back to it this week. I really want to get that thing done!

Pattern: “The Clutch you’ll never give up” from the book One Skein by Leigh Radford.
Yarn: Not even a whole skein of Mauch Chunky in the colorway “Blueberry.”
Needles: Denise size 15.
Started: May 23rd
Finished: Mary 23rd (including felting)
Dude. Want to whip up a quick mother’s day present? Right here, baby. I loves me a quick knit. It took me about an hour to knit this and another half an hour to felt it. It took longer for the thing to dry than it did for me to work on it. Stoked!
I loved this yarn. This is a beautiful yarn. Truly gorgeous. I will definately be visiting this yarn again. It’s perfect for felting.
I was trying to find some buttons to sew on it, as the pattern calls for. Didn’t find any that I liked. So I decided to use this pin that I bought a few months ago to wear with Blackberry. I suppose this pin was really meant for my Mother-in-law because it goes perfectly with this clutch and she will love the pin just by itself, too.
So today is May 1st and, thus, marks the start of a new Project Spectrumproject. Since this month is green I will be working on my husband’s Slytherin House scarf. But not before I finish Butterfly. I’m soo close I can taste it. I have finished both sleeves and am now working on the Collar. The endless collar. Hopefully I will be done with her in a few days.
If I get bored knitting the Slytherin Scarf I have some plans for this:

Lorna’s laces in the colorway, “forest.”
Thanks again for all of the positive vibes regarding the house hunting. We are still in limbo, but all should be firmed up by next week. Then I can exhale.
