Jaywalker
April 17th, 2006
I finished my Project Spectrum knitting project last week.
Pattern: Jaywalker by Grumperina in Magknits .
Yarn: Two hanks of Claudia’s Handpainted in Paprika.
Needles: Clover dpns in size 1.
Started: April 2nd
Finished: April 14th.
Here’s another picture of them.
I loved knitting these socks! I knitted them the old fashioned way with five dpns (as opposed to two circulars). I don’t think I have a preference. I think the only good thing about knitting socks on two circs may be that the project is more portable. I love this yarn! the color is amazing. It reminds me a lot of Koigu. It is spun the same way, I think. This pattern was fun, too. Perfect for a verigated yarn.
I added some more Kool-aide dye to my orange hank. I like the way it turned out! More orangey. I also tried to used the lemonaide Kool-aide to add yellow and it didn’t work. Oh well. It smells sooo good.
So the house hunting thing is not going so great. I had kind of an emotional week last week. I wrote about it here. We found a fantastic house that we love and we were going to make and offer on it, but then we sat down and crunched the numbers and realized that we just would not be able to make the mortgage. It’s depressing. I feel like I’m never going to get a house. I mean, I can’t even get what I want here in Spokane, where it’s supposedly less expensive than everywhere else. We have some things we are going to do, like pay down some credit card debt, and check into a few first-time homebuyers programs. So maybe that will help.

Your Jaywalkers look awesome! I think I’m the last person in the world to make a pair. I haven’t tried dyeing yarn yet but I can only imagine how frutti-tutti your house smells afterward!
Don’t despair about house buying. It’s stressful and seems to take forever. I would advise you to keep looking, even if you don’t think you can do it yet, simply because the right house at the right price might pop up. And then you’ll know it’s the right house because you’ve been looking for a while. Good luck!

I wish you the best of luck on the house situation. I know it can be discouraging! Just keep looking, and I think the right place will come
Lovely Jaywalkers, Moni. They are so Project Spectrum! You sure knocked those out pretty quick!

I feel like house hunting should be this magical time, but it never is- with how the housing market has spiralled out of control everywhere, I feel like it’s this huge reality check for a lot of people (including us- we live in Tumbleweedlandia, for frig’s sake). I know it’s hard not to get emotionally involved, but I totally echo what Karma and Lolly said about trying to get tied up in it, and just think- the more you look, the more likely you are to find a place that will be perfect in every way.
The Jaywalkers look great! I think I might have to buckle and try the pattern.
