Two socks at the same time. Yippee.
January 30th, 2006
Okay. There. I did it. I got that purged out of my system. It sidetracked me for almost two weeks, but I did it. I knitted two friggen socks at the same time on two circulars. woohoo.
(please forgive my snarky attitude. I slept on my side the wrong way and woke up not able to move my neck. I’m just a bit cranky this morning.)
So, what did I think about this method? I didn’t like it. One sock on two circs was fine. Two at the same time, not so much. It was clunky as all get out. It was annoying and hard to keep track of what was on what needle. And heel turning? a complete and total disaster. I had to totally take one sock off of the needles to turn the heel of the other. It was at that point that I almost threw in the towel. But I decided to stick with it because, I guess, I like to torture myself. It really wasn’t any faster than knitting one at a time, and, in fact, might have been more slow-going because of the clunkiness factor.
I’m glad I at least tried it, though.
Have you heard of Lolly’s latest project, Project Spectrum?

You should go check it out! I am going to use this opportunity to explore the art of dying/painting yarn. I’ve been thinking about doing it for ages, and recently decided that I wanted to go for it. So this comes at a wonderful time! I’m excited!
Hope your Monday is going fantastic!
Cheers!

so you made it through 2 at a time! way to stick with it! i was wondering if this way was actually quicker and you confirmed my sneaky suspicion that it wasn’t.

The fact that you can knit one sock at a time makes me think you’re a genious! Now that you’ve knitted TWO at one time I’m just in awe of you! Way to go!

Thanks for your honest opinion… I’ve been considering two socks on two circs, as you know, and I have a feeling that I’d get all discombobulated! At any rate, your socks turned out really well and now you get to wear them.

It is really interesting to hear your critique on the method, Moni. I still have not tried the circ method at all - I am a DPN girl, but I do want to try the circs, just to see. I like the way your socks came out - brilliant colors!
Speaking of colors - it is great to see you thinking about your Project Spectrum crafts. I hope to experiment with some handpainting too - can’t wait to see what you do, Moni! I am so excited about the Project - thanks for mentioning it here on your blog!

Hi Moni, from another Spokanite. I’m glad I read your thoughts on the 2 socks at a time business, as I am doing my first pair with circulars right now, but 1 at a time…and was thinking about doing the next pair 2 at a time…but also having a feeling that I wouldn’t like it. Socks are my mindless meeting knitting (usually, unless they’re fancy socks)…and I don’t want it to be clunky or having to think too hard. I’m not even sure if I like 1 on circulars for meeting purposes…I try to stay discreet (when knitting at meetings or in church
), and I don’t know that those shiny things flapping around help much in that department.
