Two are better than one

Two ugly socksHave you ever been so obsessed with a knitting project that it has actually kept you up at night? That happens to me every once in awhile, for whatever reason. And it happened this past week when I decided I HAD to teach myself how to knit two socks at the same time. I don’t know if it was the socks or just a bit of stress at work, but I was seriously obsessed with this to the point of losing sleep a couple of nights. I found some really good websites on how to get started, but decided to just go ahead and follow this (straight laced is the name of it) pattern at Knitty. I had a few false starts but have managed to make it down to the turning of one heel. The biggest problem I have found is not knitting onto the wrong needle. I decided to follow the advice of a website that I found and paint nailpolish on the tips of one of the needles, to make it easy to differentiate between the two. It’s easy to tangle the two balls of yarn you are working with, too, so it is important to move around your balls of yarn as you knit around and around. Other than that, it’s not horrible. I little akward, but not bad. I do like that they are both done at the same time.

As I said, I have turned one of the heels (you do the two heels separately). And I have kind of run into a bit of a snag. I don’t know if the directions are messed up or if I read them wrong. I will post agian when I am done and will let you know how it goes. I think I should be done with them soon. And I do like that :) .

Yes, that is that awful Knitpicks sock yarn that keeps creeping up on my blog. It is truly wretched, this colorway. Oh well.

You are my knitting hero this week! We’ve been talking about the 2 socks on 2 circs thing and you went for it. Good job! I’ll have to take another look at that Knitty pattern. Good times!

You are amazing, Moni! what a passion and desire to get that technique down - I need some of that motivation over here with my poor sock mate.

The colorway does not look wretched to me!

I was just going to say how neat I thought the socks were looking. You’re so good to keep going to find a project for the yarn, after you seem to have hated it for quite some time. :)

I think I’m going to do some socks for Mik for Valentine’s Day- if I can cram it in amongst all my other knitting deadlines. :P
