It’s all about me
December 22nd, 2005
Hello! Like how I stealthily knitted the Lace Leaf Pullover? heh, heh. It was really quite the quick knit. I took me a short few weeks to knit. I wore it to work the other day to lots of compliments. I’ve been wearing most of my wool sweaters lately and I think everyone is kind of surprised at how prolific my collection of handknit sweaters is. And I have to admit, I’m kind of embarrased by it. Maybe I should start knitting for other people…..Naw!
Speaking of selfish me-knitting. Here is a scarf I knit up with that Manos I got at Community awhile back. I followed this little pattern found here at Sheep in the City. I really like the woven look the pattern generates.
I am also enjoying the colorway, too. It pretty much goes with everything. This was my first experience with Manos. I liked it alright. The colors are beautiful. But it’s a little bit too unevenly spun for my taste. There were places where the yarn was, like lace-weight and then it would go back to being thick.
My husband has declared that he would like one of the ear-flap hats found in the newest issue of IK. The Ridged Helmet Hat to be exact. So I guess I will be making one of those as soon as the yarn gets here. I ordered enough to make myself one, too. I am also working on a Slytherin scarf for him too. I started it before Thanksgiving but got bored by all of the stockinette so put it down. He asked me about it the other day..oops! I guess I need to get on that.
Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

No, don’t stop knitting for you! You are the only one that appreciates it for what it truly is - labor of love! That is great about the compliments on it. You are the talk of the library
LOVE the scarf - those Manos colors are beautiful, and they look good with your hair!

You’re very sweet to knit for DH. My guy asks for things but is so very picky about clothes that I’m afraid to spend the money and the time on something he may not wear.
I agree with Lolly… don’t stop knitting for yourself! No way!

there’s nothing wrong with knitting only for yourself! i’m a very selfish knitter! in fact, this is the first year since i started knitting about 5-6 years ago that i made christmas presents for my family!
the manos scarf looks great. i’m about ready to experience the world of manos after the holidays. we are having a little knit-along w/ my SnB group for the Hot Lava cardigan.
Have a happy holiday!

I love the colors of the Manos- I’ve never knit with it, but I have with Cash Iroha and had the same issues (nevermind that it would outright break in some places- I have a real deep hatred for that yarn).
And I have to echo what everyone else said- you can’t stop knitting for yourself! I sometimes feel guilty about it too, since I’ve knit next to nothing for my kids, but it’s the one thing that I do for myself, consistently, and I’m not going to feel bad about it. Neither should you. Just think- for everyone elses hobby of vegging in front of the TV, they only have dead brain cells to show, whereas you have wearable works of art!

Found a super website to get yarn. http://www.elderberrycreekalpacas.com has over 20 colors and various weights. elderberrycreekalpacas also has lots of finished products, but I would rather buy the yarn and make my own. So far, a couple of super soft and warm scarfs, but the sweater is beginning to take shape.
