I finished my fluffy, soft baby alpaca scarf Thanksgiving morning. I love it.
Pattern: My very own. Although it’s not rocket science.
Yarn: Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca. 2 balls. In Cream.
Needles: Size 9 Denise needles.
Started: Nov. 19th, 2005
Finished: Nov. 24th 2005.
I wanted a nice cable pattern for this scarf so I looked through my Big Book of Knitting Stitch Patterns, and found one that I liked. It’s on page 57 and it’s called “Opulent cables.” The cable is worked on 13 stitches. decided that I wanted two cables on my scarf, and of course, reverse stockinette stitch between the cables. I thought that three stitches between the cables would be nice. I decided on a garter stitch border to kind of keep it from curling too much.
So here are my directions, if your interested:
cast on 41 stitches.
Knit in garter stitch for four rows.
Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 15, and 17: k3, *p3, k6, p1, k6, (repeat from * once) , p3, k3.
Row 2 (and all even numbered rows) knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches EXCEPT the first and last three stitches. The first and last three stitches are in garter stitch so always knit those.
Rows 13 and 19: K3, *p3, slip 6 stitches on cable needle and hold in front of work. K6, p1, K6 from cable needle (repeat from * once), p3, k3.
When you have finished two repeats of this pattern do your keyhole on the three purl stitches in the middle of the cables. Knit the first cable, cast off three stitches (I don’t really like how this looks. I would suggest doing something like k3tog, k2tog, or some other decrease method). Use the other ball of yarn to knit the left side of the scarf. Knit in this manner for about 7 row, or until you think the keyhole is large enough, then break the yarn on the left side. Break the yarn on the left side after you have finished your wrong side row. On the next row, the right side row, knit the first cable, then either cast on three stitches in the middle, or m2 into the last cable stitch by knitting into the front, back, then front. Then m1 into the first stitch of the second cable by knitting into the front and then back. I think the m1 method makes the scarf look a little bit neater.
Repeat the 20 rows for the cable pattern until your yarn is almost out, then knit 4 rows in garter stitch. Bind off.
I hope this makes sense. feel free to comment or contact me if you have any questions.
Oh, and I got one of those map thingys, so let me know where you are coming from by clicking the image:

I thought it would be fun to see where my visitors are visiting from.
Happy monday.
