new life = f-ing busy!
Holy crap. My new job is busy! Note that this is the first chance I have been able to post since my first day on Tuesday! Maybe it’s because it was my first week, and I’m learning a lot? I don’t know. I DO know that I have lots of homework. Since I am a brand, spanking new children’s librarian I’m going to have to do lots of YA reading in my spare time. So that means less time for knitting, since I really can’t knit and read at the same time. I am going to have to figure out a schedule for myself or something because in my spare time I am automatically drawn to knitting. So I will have to plan an hour or so a day to YA reading. Also, I won’t be able to blog at work, as I don’t really have my own computer. Since I am working at two different branches and, for that matter, at different places within the library, we log into a server instead and save our work to it. It’s actually a good idea so that we don’t leave our work at different computers. It’s all accessable via the server.
more on my job in a minute. Let’s talk about knitting instead.
So this is my progess on the Lacy Kerchief Scarf. I thought I was halfway done with it, since I have finished the required number of yarn over repeats (to give it width), but my measurements don’t match the instructions. It’s supposed to be 41 inches long and it’s only about 28 or something. So I think at this point I will continue with the YO repeats until it measures 41″.
I like it! The pattern is very easy. I had to rip once, and it wasn’t so bad. I was able to easily figure out where I was without a lifeline. I am liking the color combo more, too. I’ve noticed on my little shopping expeditions (Did I tell you I work across the street from Nordstrom and the Riverpark Square shopping mall? Dangerous.) I have noticed that Pink and Green are kind of in right now. Since I didn’t really have any clothes to match these colors I bought some pink and grey pinstripe pants from Bananaa republic. I may have to find a cute pink or green (or both) shirt to go with them…Like I said. Dangerous.
Did I show you some of the sock yarn I bought recently? The Claudia’s Hand Dyed I bought at my last trip to Commuknity when I went to a lovely little open house with my knit buddy Kathryn. The Opal I bought a week ago when I was with my mom. I discovered another yarn Store in Spokane! It’s actually a quilting store that also has a yarn room. They have a good selection of Noro and they have Addi Turbos which I’m happy about. I bought this Opal yarn because I’ve been very curious about it and I can’t leave a yarn store without buying something. And sock yarn is the fallback.
My mom and I earlier that morning, had been talking to someone about getting help starting a yarn store here in town. So we stopped by there to see what the competition was like. We are kind of just thinking about it at this point, but I will let you know of any developments if any thing comes of it.
So, as for my job…I really like it! I am definately a public librarian by nature. It feels really good to help people in this realm. it feels natural. And I am really, really going to love helping kids. I’ve already kind of been helping them the best I can when they ask me questions and I love it. I’m a little terrified of Storytime since I’ve never really done it and don’t have a clue. But I think I just need to get through my first one and I will be okay. The job itself is very busy. There was a severe budget cut so everyone is doing the jobs of two people, really. But I’m fine with it. I actually like it. It makes the day go by faster. And it’s stuff that is fun to do. I do feel a little overwhelmed by everything I learned this week, but that’s to be expected with new jobs.
So my blog updating might not be as frequent as it was before, probably only be able to really do it on the weekends. And I also will have less time for blog reading, as well. I’m trying to keep up in the evenings, though. If I don’t comment on your blog right away, just know I am still reading you
. Have a great week!
