Introducing KnittyCat!

Well, I’ve gotten most of my new bloggy things sorted out. I found a good photo plugin that will work well for my purposes on this blog. (Exhibit is what I’m using, if your interested.)

I wanted to introduce you to a new knitting blog! it’s called knittycat and hosted by my friend, Judy (I’ve mentioned her on this blog a few times) She is a fairly new knitter but has totally fallen under the knitting goddess’s spell. She is extremelly creative and talented and it will be fun and interesting to see how she develops as a knitter :) . Welcome to the knitblog world, Judy!

©M.SmithJudy, if you’re reading this, I finished the “almost gloves” that I knitted for your mom (Judy’s mom crocheted me the lovely poncho that I got for Christmas). Here are the specs:
Pattern: Nearly Gloves by Marnie Maclean.
Yarn: Ziti by Artfibers, in the color, Grog. 1 ball.
Needles: Denise Interchangables, size 11.
Completed: 1/16/05.
Click here for a blurry view of the palm. It’s official, my camera sucks. Or I suck as a photographer.

So what to do now? Well, I have a sqare from the LTKA that has been halfway finished for months and months. I’m going to try and finish that today. Then I’ve got a long list of projects waiting in the wings.

Have you seen The Skinny Rabbit’s opera length gloves? (of course you have, who doesn’t visit her blog :) ) Love them!! I think I am going to make some similar. I’m not going to use her pattern. I have a pattern for long fingerless gloves in my “Pattern-a-day Calendar.” If you have the calendar, it’s the pattern for Monday Feb. 7. They are really cute, long and they have a cable up the front. Yesterday I ordered some Peruvian Collection Pure Alpaca from Elann (so much for that yarn diet). I’m excited to knit these babies up!

Some other projects to work on:

  1. Clapotis for Gail
  2. perhaps another hat for Gail
  3. Finish Audrey
  4. Gesta
  5. Artfibers Chai Sweater
  6. Jess
  7. Alice

This should keep me pretty busy for awhile!

LaBoheme Scarf - Alaska

©M.Smith I present another LaBoheme scarf, this time in the colorway, Alaska. I started it last week, around the same time that I started on Shedir. But I wanted to get Shedir done first. It knitted up pretty quickly when I took the time to actually sit down and knit on it. Again, I casted on 20 and knitted in stockinette until I ran out of yarn. I think it turned out really pretty! It certainly goes with everything that I own. Click here for another view.

My friend loved Shedir :) . I went to see her in the hospital on Tuesday. She was just getting admitted so that she could go through another round of Chemo and would be in for four days (ugh!). I gave her the hat and she promptly put it on and wore it the whole time I was there. The color looked great on her! And it ended up fitting her perfectly. So all went well with that. I think that I am going to knit her a Clapotis so that she will have someing cozy to wrap around her shoulders. I ordered some Cascade Sierra Quatro from Hello Knitty. I’ve never tried that yarn before and I don’t know if it will work for Clapotis, so we’ll see.

Have a wonderful three-day weekend everyone!

Shedir

©M.SmithPattern: Shedir from the Knitty fall surprise.
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora in fusia. 1.5 balls.
Needles: Size 3 bamboo, 16′ circular and dpns.
Completed: 1/10/05

Here’s Shedir. She turned out a little bit too long. Actually, quite a bit too long. But it’s still wearable if you turn up the brim. Using this yarn, I had to not do some of the repeats.

So what do I think of cables now? one word. frustrating. Not at all relaxing knitting for me. It was fun to see how the cables came together, though. However, I was really happy to be done with this hat. I am dissappointed that it turned out too big, but I will not reknit it. no way. I will have to give to to my friend and hope that it fits. This is why I hate knitting for other people. There is just way too much pressure to make things perfect, and it ends up being stressful.

Now I can get back to work on my second LaBoheme scarf, this time in the colorway, Alaska. Here is a pic of the yarn, in hank form:

Now these are my colors. :) Happy Monday everyone!
