La Boheme silver and gold scarf

January 2nd, 2005

©M.Smith I finished my scarf with the La Boheme yarn that I bought in Spokane last September. I only used one skien and it was enough. In fact, it could have ended up too long. This scarf has seen a few incarnations. The first of which was the Trana pattern from CTH II.

After letting it stew for a couple of months I decided to try using the multi-directional scarf pattern. I began working on it after the silk garden scarf featured in the previous post. I didn’t like the way that one looked. So I frogged it and tried making it skinnier, tried smaller sized needles, still didn’t like it. I decided to go with the trana pattern again, but when I was almost halfway done with that decided I didn’t like it. So then I just decided to go with ginormous needles (size 15) and knit it up in stockinette stitch. At first I cast on 15, knitted it until it reached my head, and realized that, at this rate, it was going to be way to long for my taste. So I frogged it and cast on 20. Just right :) . The fringe really gives it the added touch and makes it really pretty.

©M.SmithUnfortunately, these are so not my colors. So I will probably gift it to someone. Again, I don’t know who. I think I may buy another skien and this time pick out my colors to knit one for myself. I think this is a really pretty scarf! It drapes so beautifully. And so simple. When I finally decided on how to knit it it only took a day or so.

This is the most expensive yarn I have ever bought. I can’t imagine buying enough for a sweater or something like that! But it was worth it, just being able to work with it.

I’ve had the week off and it has been raining non-stop. Well, that’s not entirely true. We’ve had a little bit of a break now and then, but for the most part it’s been really wet. It pretty much sucks. Raf and I have been talking about maybe moving to Portland in teh next few years, but now we are not sure if we could stand living somewhere where it rains so much. A week of it is starting me make me a little crazy.

Here’s a quick update on my friend: I found out that she was released from the hospital a lot earlier than expected! She was released on Wednesday. This is good because teh expectation was that she would be in for more than three weeks. I’m going to knit her the shedir cap pattern found in the Knitty breast cancer awareness surprise. I couldn’t find any Calmer right away so I found some fabulous bright pink Debbie Bliss cotton Angora. I hope it will be a good substitute. (when I went to the yarn store just now to buy the debbie bliss, I also picked up another skien of LaBoheme, this time in Alaska. hey, it was 20 percent off! Icouldn’t resist :) )

Thanks for all of your prayers! I’ll keep you updated :)

I love the colors! I’d force them to be “my” colors, if I were you. ;)

The pooling worked out into a neat zig-zag pattern.

It is a pity you aren’t terribly fond of those colors…I think it would look divine on you… Good call also with the 20 stitches..I think it’s a good length…and what teh heck do you do with teeny bits of left over yardage? it’s good to recalculate!

Lovely yarn and lovely scarf–I am sure whomever the lucky giftee is will love it (but I have to agree that I think it would look good on you too!)

Great idea about the Sherdir hat for your friend. I wish her the best.

    Take care :)

That’s a great LaBoheme scarf. The 2 shawls I made was with the same yarn…different colors. Light & airy but just warm enough.
