Bertie and the Widow’s Shawl
October 3rd, 2004
I’m feeling a bit better today so I thought I’d post some pictures. Here is my progress on Bertie:
Pieces of Bertie. I am working on the side panel. It is going to stretch around the sides, down the bottom, and then up the other side. The pattern is very interesting. You basically slip every other stitch. It seems to make the fabric really strong, and flat. I think I’m going to knit up some matching gadget holders, too. Then I’ll wash everything together and sew them up. So far I really like this yarn.
Okay, here is the Widow’s Shawl:
That’s the best I can do without taking it off the needles. I think it’s coming out pretty good, if I do say so myself! I think I’ll be done with it pretty soon.
I’m thinking about what to do next. I gravitating toward knitting up something with the Softig since it’s bulky and whatever I knit will knit up fast. I just don’t know what to knit with it, though. Any ideas? It’s a cotton yarn, very bulky. It’s actually tube-like. I was kind of comparing it with Cotton Tape, but I don’t know if it is much like that at all. It’s really not a tape, it’s more of a tube. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Have you swatched the softig yet? I thought I might use a cotton tape pattern even though, as you pointed out, they’re not similar yarns. Maybe it’s more like a cotton version of Rowan Cork?
COMMENT:

I actually haven’t swatched yet…that is definately something I should do. It would help me figure out what patterns would be good. I think it is essentially a bulky knit, though. The “it’s a tape thing” sounds interesting. I might check that out. I’m not sure if its like the Noro Tubu or the Rowan Cork..Maybe I should take a trip to the LYS to find out
