Audrey Swatching Troubles
September 16th, 2004
Well, I swatched for Audrey last night with not so good results. When I was finished my swatch measured 12 cm! Unfortunately, I’m new to the whole “square swatch” thing. I feel totally clueless. I’ve always just counted my stitches per inch and gone with that. So I guess this means that I have too few stitches and need to go down a size? I am so mentally challenged when it comes to things like this. I just spent an hour on the audrey-along site, reading about the gauge issues. A lot of people are using teh Denise needles to knit thier audreys. I wonder if I shouldn’t just buy those needles. What do you think? How are those Denises? would it be worth it for me to get those?

Webs…what a dangerous place. Audrey is hard to get gauge with. Stretchy yarn is hard to work with.
good luck!
COMMENT:

Well, I broke down and bought the denise needles. I figure that I will (hopefully) save money by buying them. I still can’t believe the gauge issues I’m having with Audrey. I feel like I’m losing my mind! It’s seems like the pattern must have a typo or something. Hopefully the Denise needles will take care of it.

I do not own a pair myself, but I have heard only the best things about Denises. I think that they sound like a good investment.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the Denise needles. Initially, it took me a while to warm up to them, but now I use them constantly.
I can’t speak for everyone, but they seem to work very well with the Calmer b/c they don’t “grab” the yarn and hold onto it. This is a good thing for me since I tend to be a tight knitter.
I hope you enjoy your set — they have the extra added bonus of being airplane friendly!
