Growing Healthy Food in Your Home Garden
More and more people get into growing their own fresh fruit and vegetables by planting a home garden. Many enjoy their fresh produce from the garden during the growing season and also preserve it for later use by freezing and canning. Even those not previously interested in gardening have become motivated to grow their own products as they learned that the store bought fruits and vegetables are often nutrient poor.
Not only that, but for many people start and cultivating a home garden for providing wonderful foods for the table is a pleasant undertaking. Gardening has long been a popular hobby for many people around the world, but when you add the extra incentive of the possibility of your family with nutritious fruits and vegetables that are not contaminated with chemicals and pesticides, is easy to see why the popularity of the garden has grown.
In addition to concerns about the quality and safety of store-bought produce, another reason why people like a garden full of beautiful home food that you can go out and pick the vegetables at the right moment to ensure freshness. Compare this with tomatoes, for that are picked long before they ripen, transported, stored and finally on store shelves.
In that scenario, it is commonplace for the vast majority of products sold in supermarkets today, the tomato has been detached from its life-giving parent plant for many days and sometimes weeks. But with a vegetable garden just outside the kitchen, you can use the tomatoes as they are at their peak of ripeness and be able to identify the most fresh tomatoes to your salad or for your famous tomato sauce.
Most of the common and popular vegetables available in the produce sections of supermarkets can be grown in home gardens. Some of the most popular varieties are carrots, green beans, potatoes, peas, beets, broccoli, cabbage, and like many varieties of squash, to name a few.
And do not forget all the wonderful berries that can be grown at home also. Technical having a fruit, tomatoes are one of the most popular foods that people enjoy in their own gardens. They are easy to grow and simply delicious plucked the vine.
Produce from a vegetable garden can be used immediately or can be frozen or canned for later use, and many people are herbs in their gardens too. In fact, more useful herbs if they can even be grown inside, making your garden more work simply and easily. And, like those fresh vegetables taste better and are better for you, you will also find that fresh herbs from the garden are superior in taste and smell compared to the dried and packaged varieties.
Besides all the benefits of a home garden for providing good food and herbs for your meals, many people just enjoy the garden, weeding, watering and caring for their crops. There is a great feeling of satisfaction in planting and care of the garden and in seeing your efforts bloom and grow. And, sharing a meal of good food with friends is a feeling many people treasure.
